Listening to the feedback and recommendations provided by iMediaShare users is crucial for us to move the application forward. One of the most desired features in iOS version was access to iPod library and streaming music to any connected entertainment devices around the house. With the latest 3.2 release of iMediaShare for iOS we enabled that capability and Music icon is now part of the content sources’ lineup. It is still in beta as there were some technical challenges which we need to overcome.

iMediaShare 3.2 also extends the playback support of camera recorded videos when streamed to network-enabled media devices. What iMediaShare brings now is a on-the-fly conversion of video files from Apple’s proprietary video format into a more widely accepted MP4 format. Thus devices like Sony PlayStation 3 can play flawlessly videos recorded with iPhone camera. Unfortunately there are still a certain devices that are not capable to recognize MP4 videos.

Finally iMediaShare has also improved application start time by optimizing long lasting local videos and photos loading operation. With this improvement now you can reach your favorite online content much faster and start playing videos from YouTube or whatever online service directly on the TV screen.

In short iMediaShare 3.2 is a big step ahead release. Probably we should version it as 4.0 but to keep it consistent with the Android 3.x release cycles we just sticked to that;-) Anyway go to iTunes App Store and get iMediaShare Free or Premium and I hope you’ll enjoy. Do not forget to let us know what do you think about that. We appreciate your feedback a lot!

With My Network iMediaShare 3.4 for Android enables browsing content from network attached media servers and then playing that content either on the mobile screen or routed to the connected entertainment device. Unlike other new channels popping up when app is launched, My Network is more an app embedded functionality. So far it is available for Android but its is also planned to be introduced for iOS version of the application soon.

Tapping on My Network icon an automatic scan for available media servers is started and all discovered are listed. Tapping on a selected media server gives access to all-stored videos, photos and music organized in the way they are stored on the server. The rest of the flow is just the same as within the other content channels thus the consistency in user behaviour is preserved.

My Network is another feature requested strongly by iMediaShare community. Being available now I’ll be happy to hear from you what your experience is.

In those days we had just a few online channels like YouTube, Picasa, Facebook, TED (SD & HD), NASA TV and Motorz TV (SD & HD) in addition to the phone stored photos, videos and music.

Three months later if you open iMediaShare a scrollable screen with channels’ icons is loaded. Today their number is exactly 30 including those for phone-stored content. If you exclude the duplicate SD & HD versions for some of the channels the exact number of various content sources is exactly 25. While that number is not big enough it has been achieved in less than 3 months and that number is growing pretty fast. Probably you have noticed from time to time new icons appear magically on the channels’ dashboard screen. But there is not magic behind. We have designed the system to be fully configurable from our end and push new channel whenever it is ready for streaming instead of waiting for a couple of weeks when the next release cycle has ended.

While iOS version is not quite there (recently Apple approved for sale Premium Edition), it is on its way. iMediaShare Free edition has been submitted and we are waiting for Apple’s approval soon. What it means is that the exact same number of online channels will pop up on Channels screen on any iOS device. More than that Android and iOS users will be introduced with new channels whenever they become available and can enjoy one and the same content sources.

Update (04/12/11): Today Apple approved Free edition. Now it is available for download/update from iTunes AppStore
